With more than 30 years of experience in arts and heritage, across both local authorities and national development agencies, I offer a wealth of sector knowledge and strategic perspective. My 30 years’ service as a trustee, including current roles as Chair and Vice Chair for Music Charities, has provided me with substantial expertise in charity governance and board leadership.

Strategy & Vision development

At The National Archives I co-authored and project managed the Government’s new Vision for Archives: Archives at the Heart of Society.

Investment and Funding

At Arts Council England, I was instrumental in bringing museums into Arts Council investment programmes, enabling access to significantly increased funding. I also supported museums and arts organisations in developing successful funding applications. Through my experience as a grant assessor, I have gained a deep understanding of what funders look for in strong proposals.

Governance

With over 30 years of leadership in charity governance, I bring substantial insight into the challenges and opportunities facing charities. My experience spans roles including Vice Chair of Birmingham Citizens Advice Bureau Service, School Governor, and three terms as a nationally elected member of the Museums Association Board, providing both breadth and depth of governance expertise.

I maintain current insight into Arts Council–funded organisations and fundraising through my role as Co-Vice Chair of Music for Youth, alongside supporting Ex Cathedra with their development work.

As Chair of The Stringcredibles, I also use the Charity Governance Code to strengthen governance and support the organisation’s development.

Training and Development

Inspired by the Clore Leadership Programme, I became an RD1st Accredited Coach, building on more than 30 years’ experience of mentoring through the Museums Association. By combining coaching and mentoring approaches, I support individuals and teams to gain clarity, build confidence, and realise their full potential.
